Visit to our partner school, Greenridge Academy in Aylesbury, England
Ride the tube through London, see Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, try fish and chips or visit an English primary school. For 10 pupils from Stahringen Primary School, this dream has come true. Together with their principal Mrs. Wieshoff and their teacher Mrs. Andresen, they recently travelled to the Green Ridge Primary Academy in Aylesbury for 5 days.
Even the journey by plane (for some it was their first flight), subway and British Rail was an experience for the children.
On site, they first went to their accommodation (self-catering) and then to a huge English supermarket, where the children were able to try out their English skills straight away.
The next day (Sunday) began with a big picnic organized by the teachers and parents of the English elementary school. The children were able to get to know each other informally while having fun and games,
The following day, the school day began. The German pupils were given English school uniforms, which they wore with great enthusiasm. They were then divided into pairs for the individual classes and lessons began.
The pupils were at school every day from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. Due to their bilingual education, the children had no difficulty communicating with their English classmates, even the two youngest children from Year 1, who had also traveled with them. New friendships were quickly formed and many emails were exchanged on the day of departure.
GS Stahringen has had a bilingual school profile for many years. This means that four subjects are taught exclusively in English by a British teacher
On the last day, the pupils were able to discover London. An open-top double-decker bus took them across London in glorious sunshine, past all the famous sights. Before finally saying goodbye to Great Britain, the children were allowed to have fun in the largest toy store (Hamleys) in England. On arrival in Zurich, there was only one sentence: When can we go back again?
