Do you want to quickly run to the bakery and buy fresh bread, crispy rolls or juicy cakes for little money? This is a matter of course for us today. For the folk who lived in the countryside 100 years ago it wasn't. Grain was the mainstay of human nutrition until the 19th century. But getting the flour for the bread and the baking itself was hard, exhausting work. On this trip, the children of the 3rd and 4th classes experienced the effort behind the planting of the seed right through to the baking of the bread, and afterwards they baked thin bread topped with bacon and herbs together.
We had a fantastic day and all learnt a lot about where our bread comes from.
